SatanicBlack - IMOAL (Self Released, 1999) Rating: 7/10 This is not at all what I expected. Looking at the cover of SatanicBlack's DIY debut CD, I expected sloppy, underproduced black metal. Instead, this twisted two-man band play a hybrid of black, death and straight-up heavy metal. The final result is a passionate blend between the pomp of classic power metal and the rawness of black and death metal, which sometimes works fantastically well, such as the opener "Night Animal," and other times not so well ("Lucifers Rise").  The vocal performance ranges from clean, but rough vocals to high-pitched screams ala Attacker and the like, to deep death metal growls and a black metal screech. A drum machine is utilized, and not a very good one... it sounds lifeless, which I think is a big part of the reason that some of the material on IMOAL falls flat. On the opener, "Night Animal," it works as it is a raw, blasting black metal track and the cold feel suits it well. However, on the more classical metal-influenced tunes, like the title track, it just about kills what would be an otherwise very cool song  with very interesting musical ideas and great growling vocals. The band's beliefs are firmly entrenched in LaVeyian Satanism and this most definitely is not a gimmick, folks. These guys are bred through and through. So, my overall assessment: a lot of good ideas and some strong performing here. SatanicBlack would benefit from a live drummer and better production. The recording is very raw and does not do the material justice at all. I would really like to hear what they could do with some quality studio time, as I think the results would be very impressive.

Local Salt Lake black metal artists SatanicBlack have committed their music to CD format(I think these guys are the ones that should be committed).SatanicBlack is Comprised of Jason Black(vocals,guitar,percussion and keyboard)and J. Satanicblack-I.M.O.A.L./When I first listened to this album I hated it, but this was because it wasn't what I had expected. The cover art, liner notes, band and song names all being satanic made me think this was going to be a black metal album, but it very much isn't. The guitars are a bit light for me, the drums are too slow, and I really hate the vocalist, but some of the songs are OK and they remind me for some reason of Venom. Verdict: An OK album, but misleading.

SatanicBlack-Satan Speaks 2000 From the grim and relentlessly dull town of Salt Lake City in the great state of Utah comes Black Metal of an early American statue. While heavier than the older Black Metal bands that this album refers to, there is no denying that Jason Black and J. Allen Black (the two responsible for everything recorded here) are Metal fans with a history of listening to Metal and indulging in it. Raw would be a word that I would use to describe both the production and the power that ensues song after song. Unfortunately, the album is plagues with bad production of the harshest kind, but I truly enjoy this album and can easily distance myself from the production due to good songwriting. Not mind-blazing blast-beat corpse painted Black Metal, but more like the 80's blood bands (EXE, Oz, Impaler) yet more fierce. Above average for sure. Rating: 3 out of 6

SatanicBlack-I.M.O.A.L. 2000 I was expecting this to be somewhat similar to the album above. Above average slower to mid paced Black Metal like the "Satan Speaks" album. I was wrong! I do not know if you have ever heard the song "Black Candles" by the band Oz (from the "Fire in the brain" album), but if you have then that song is what I compare this album to. Slow and totally haunting moving melodies with harsh and clean vocals. Totally devastating on the depressive structure of my brain and actually a depressive onslaught throughout the entire album. Methodical and provocative movements mixed with very effective vocals provide an enthusiastic listen each time. Vocally Reminding me at times of some of Ishans (Emperor) vocals around the "Anthems to the Welkin at dusk" album and other times the shouted vocals of bands like "Nuclear Assault" and "Overkill" (of old). Rating: 3.50 out of 6

SATANICBLACK "Angel's Of Blood" CD 2005-- SATANICBLACK creates two musicians - Jason Nightanimal Black and J.Allen Black. The climate reigning during listening their material brings the thought associations with old legendary bands with sort heavy/doom /black metal. I mean concretely CANDLEMASS, BULLDOZER, VENOM or even BLASPHEMY. The SATANICBLACK is product resultant of these bands. I think that except arrangements the specific "old" sound guitars make large part. The guitar's sound in supplement of characteristic multicolored sound of vocal create old satanic tune. In majority the vocal parties remind parties of VENOM or BULLDOZER. But here melodious vocal phrases or the black metal vocals in style of BLASPHEMY aren't lacks. The tunes have special melodic and heaviness. "Mad" psychedelic melodies as well as charismatic voice create the satanic old-metal dark climate. Seldom the climate comes in ritual-ceremonial motives in style of ACHERON. The whole in majority is based on average paces with frequent tendencies to doom metal slow down or else old black metal accelerations.
